Some breeds of cats are hairless and shorthaired and some are either longhaired or curly. Here are the prettiest and most popular longhaired and curly cat breeds in the world.

1.) Persian Cat



One of the most popular and most beautiful cat breeds is the Persian Cat. This longhaired cat is characterized by its round face and shortened muzzle. It is a breed that has been in existence since the 19th century and was first developed by the English.



It is known as the Longhair or Persian Longhair in the United Kingdom. This fancy and lovely-looking cat has been the most popular breed in the United States for many years.

2.) Main Coon



Undeniably, one of the best looking cast in the world is the Maine Coon. This breed of domestic cat with long and wavy hair is well-known for its distinctive physical appearance and valuable hunting skills. It is the official state cat of Maine, USA where it originated. This breed is regarded as one of the oldest in North America. This intelligent breed with gentle personality can be seen in a variety of colors.

3.) Norwegian Forest Cat



The Norwegian Forest Cat is a magnificent-looking cat breed that originated from Northern Europe.  This longhaired breed is adapted to a very cold climate, with top coat of glossy, long, water-shedding hairs, and a woolly undercoat for insulation. It is the most popular cat breed in France, Norway and Sweden.



Physically, the Norwegian Forest Cat is a strong, big cat breed with long legs, a bushy tail, and a sturdy body. The breed is very good at climbing, since they have strong claws and can live up to 16 years.

4.) Himalayan Cat



Another popular cat breed with longhair is the Himalayan Cat.



The pretty Himalayan Cat is a look-a-like of the Persian Cat. This breed of long-haired cat has blue eyes and was derived from the crossing of the Persian with the Siamese.

5.) Selkirk Rex



The Selkirk Rex is a beautiful cat breeds with highly curled hair, including the whiskers. The hair of the Selkirk Rex is of normal length and not partly missing like the Cornish Rex and Devon Rex. Its coat is more plush and thick.



The uniquely-haired Selkirk Rex originated in Montana, USA. Its breeding started in 1987. All Selkirk Rex trace their ancestry back to Miss DePesto.

6.) LaPerm



Another curly cat breed is the LaPerm. The tightest curls are those found on the belly, throat and base of the ears. LaPerms come in many colors and patterns. LaPerms generally have a very affectionate personality. This rex breed originated in the United States and is genetically unique and not related to any other rex cat varieties, having a dominant gene causing its curly coats. This hypoallergenic cat has an elegant and athletic build and is affectionate, active and outgoing in character.

7.) Devon Rex



The Devon Rex is a shorthaired breed of cat that originated from England, UK. This cat breed is well-known for its intelligence and for its wavy coat, slender body, and large ears. It is similar in appearance with the Cornish Rex. This medium-sized cat is often called "pixie cats" or "alien cats" because of its unique appearance. The whiskers of the Devon Rex are very short and often curled to such an extent that it may appear as if it has no whiskers.

8.) Cornish Rex



A Cornish Rex is a cat breed with no hair except for down hair or undercoat which is extremely fine and about 1 cm in length. The curl in Cornish Rex fur is caused by a different mutation and gene. The undercoat of this cat breed from Cornwall, England, UK is the softest of any cat breed.

9.) Turkish Angora



The Turkish Angora is a cat breed with long and wavy hair. It is known in the Turkish language as Ankara Kedisi. It is one of the ancient, naturally occurring cat breeds that originated in Ankara, Turkey formerly known as Angora. The breed is also sometimes referred to as simply the Angora or Ankara Cat.

10.) Ragamuffin



The longhaired Ragamuffin first made its appearance in 1994. This cat breed is notable for its thick, rabbit-like fur and for its friendly personality. The Ragamuffin loves people and is very cuddly and affectionate.

11.) Ragdoll



The most striking feature of the longhaired Ragdoll is its stunningly captivating blue eyes. This cat breed is a large and muscular with a soft and silky coat. It originated in the United State and is best known for its docile and placid temperament and affectionate nature.



The name "Ragdoll" is derived from the tendency of individuals from the original breeding stock to go limp and relaxed when picked up.

12.) Siberian Cat



The Siberian Cat is a cat breed that originated in Russia. Its complete name is 'Siberian Forest Cat. This natural breed cat has been around for centuries and is the national cat of Siberia. This very dog-like pet is a loyal cat that will come to greet you. The Siberian Cat appears to be fascinated with water and it is likely to drop toys in it. This friendly, energetic and smart cat breed is good with dogs.
